That means you install, secure and maintain everything on it yourself, and our support covers the hardware and the network. Check the spam folder if you do not see it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Server tools in your Yegara dashboard: open <strong>Hosting &amp; Services<\/strong> and click <strong>Manage<\/strong> next to the VPS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A VPS has no control panel such as cPanel, no email service and no domain name included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"log-in-for-the-first-time\">Log in for the first time<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On macOS or Linux, open a terminal. On Windows, use PuTTY or the Windows Terminal. Replace <code>YOUR_IP<\/code> with the IP address from the email:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>ssh root@YOUR_IP<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enter the one-time password. The server then asks you to choose a new root password before you can continue. Pick a long one and keep it safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"first-things-to-do\">First things to do<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Update the system:<\/strong> <code>apt update &amp;&amp; apt upgrade -y<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Turn on the firewall, allowing SSH first:<\/strong> <code>ufw allow OpenSSH<\/code>, then <code>ufw enable<\/code>. If you enable the firewall before allowing SSH, you lock yourself out.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Open the ports your site needs:<\/strong> <code>ufw allow 80<\/code> and <code>ufw allow 443<\/code> for a website.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Plan your backups.<\/strong> Nothing is backed up unless you set it up, or you ordered the automatic daily backup option.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"point-a-domain-to-your-vps\">Point a domain to your VPS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Add two <strong>A records<\/strong> for the domain, one for <code>@<\/code> and one for <code>www<\/code>, both with your VPS IP address as the value. Where you add them depends on the domain:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>A domain-only order with us<\/strong> has no DNS record editor. Point its nameservers to Cloudflare and add the records there. To keep mailboxes on a shared hosting account while the website runs on the VPS, see <a href=\"https:\/\/yegara.com\/en\/guide\/set-up-email-records-receive-email\/\">Set Up MX Records to Receive Email<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tools-in-your-dashboard\">Tools in your dashboard<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Web Console:<\/strong> a screen and keyboard for the server in your browser. Use it in emergencies, for example when SSH is blocked. For daily work use SSH.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Changepass:<\/strong> sets a new root password.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reboot, Reset and Shutdown.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rescue<\/strong> and <strong>Rebuild:<\/strong> repair a server that will not boot, or reinstall it from scratch. A rebuild erases everything on the server.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each tool is explained step by step in <a href=\"https:\/\/yegara.com\/en\/guide\/managing-your-vps\/\">Managing Your VPS<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"if-the-server-stops-responding\">If the server stops responding<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Open the Web Console<\/strong> from your dashboard and log in as root. If the console works, the server is running and the problem is the network or the firewall on the server.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Check the firewall:<\/strong> <code>ufw status<\/code>. Make sure SSH and your website ports are allowed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Check disk and memory:<\/strong> <code>df -h<\/code> and <code>free -h<\/code>. A full disk or no free memory stops most services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reboot<\/strong> from the dashboard.
